December 2012

As water levels began to fall last week after a long series of heavy winter storms boats were able to get back on the rivers. I spent a few days on the Elk and Sixes where winter run kings were making a decent showing. The action wasn’t red hot but we put nice, bright salmon running 10 to 20 pounds in the box each day bouncing roe and running kwickfish.

I also spent a few days looking for early season winter steelhead on the Smith and while the run is still a few weeks from hitting full stride, there were encouraging numbers of fish around. Fishing pressure was really light and it was a treat getting to have the river virtually to ourselves. Steelhead were running from 8 to 15 pounds and were biting the standard roe and a Fish Pill combination. To see all the latest pictures CLICK HERE.
