As unbelievable as it sounds, the Eureka salmon bite actually slipped a notch this week!  The action was still solid but definitely not the easy limits we’ve become so accustomed to in this area.  The best bite was in tight to the beach in 60 to 90 feet of water.   Big schools of smelt in the area are keeping the salmon fat and the grade this week was by far the best of the season.  20 to 25 pound fish were common and I heard of multiple over 30 landed.

I took advantage of the good weather and made quite a few runs down to the lost coast where the lingcod and rockfish action was phenomenal as always.  Bouncing shrimp flies and swimbaits loaded the boat in short order and there were some real hogs in the mix capped by a 31 and a 32 pound lingcod.
